1987 Pontiac Trans AmWell at 157k on the clock, and the engine not running so hot, I opted to rebuild it. As I was taking it apart I found out that someone had rebuilt it before me. It was bored +.030 which makes the original 305 a whopping 310 cu. in. Woohoo! The previous rebuilder also took out the roller cam and lifter and replace it with a hyd flat tappet, so I decided to keep that. In it now is a Comp Cams 12-246-3, along with a completely rebuilt (read re-ringed and new bearings/gaskets) bottom end. Kept the stock heads and manifolds though. She'll definately pull better than she did before, but this was my first rebuild ever so I decided to keep it simple. I dropped a whole $400 into the rebuild and what do you know it even runs! |
