Plans Change...
Well... I've been screwing around with this 310 for long enough. It'll make the power with work,
but I'm into instant gratification, so this is what we are going to do. My buddy Doug wants something to
work on during the cold winter months here in the NE.
We're gonna build us a 350 from pretty much junk parts, and see how she goes :-) It'll be a fun little
weekend project. Here are the proposed numbers from DD (for what it's worth):
New Motor With Headers
The plan is to do this the weekend of the Dec. 28th, 2002... but we'll see what happens. More info
and pics to come!
Here is some prelim info about the motor in original configuration:
It looks like it's an after-the-fact GM Goodwrench crate motor...
Block casting number - 3970010 (350, 69-80, 2 or 4 bolt main) Mine is the four and 2 piece RMS
Head casting number - 3998993 1.94/1.50 75cc Hencho en Mexico.
I will be replacing those heads with these:
Casting number - 14102191 1.94/1.50 64cc 1988 EFI Swirl heads (IRON)
These will have some pocket porting done, nothing fancy though. This is so I can run my TPI
setup on the fresh, yet old, 350.
The only serial number that I could get off the block is MO21800, which doesn't mean anything to me
since I can't seem to find out where to decode a 7 digit serial number. Anyone know what it means?
News Section
12/25/2002 - Decided to not do it the junk yard way, and built it semi-right. The block is going
to the machine shop next week for a +0.030 bore/hone and a good decking. Also, the heads will be cleaned
up, treated to a 3-angle valve job and then milled for a 64cc chamber volume.
12/24/2002 - Ripped it all apart. What a mess. The inside was fairly clean, despite the sludge and
water that poured out when I drained it. Definately 4 bolt main. Definately useable.
12/23/2002 - Got the engine home. It appears to be an early 80's GM GoodWrench create engine
that was put in as a replacement in a truck. I pulled a head just to make sure that it was a 350 ;-) I'll
have pics and status real soon...
