Restoration Squawk List - Instrument Related
Page Last Updated on Feb 10, 2005 Heated pitot tube Like the vacuum pump, the heated pitot was an option from Cessna in our year model aircraft. What's left for us to do is to find either a pitot with the same part number as the optional one from 1958, or another heated pitot assembly that's FAA PMA approved and then just install it. This is something that needs to be done though as we want to fly IFR and would hate for the pitot system to become iced up! Artificial Horizon The one we have is the original type, no color... That and we know that it doesn't work all that great, so we are going to put in a newer one with the blue and brown background. Simple as that! Vertical card Directinal Gyro Ahh yes, we have the compass-like horizontally oriented DG right now. This is coming out and being replaced with the standard style that you see today. Fuel Gauges We have the original Dual Fuel, Oil Temp and Oil Pressure gauge cluster that came in the airplane... This is great, all except the fact that the oil temp and oil pressure do not function. We have installed new WesTach gauges to take over the failed instruments duties, but now there is a nice pretty gauge cluster in there that only half works. What I want to do here is to remove the original part all together and just install two new WesTach fuel gauges and be done with it. Turn Coordinator Since ours kicked the bucket (actually there is speculation that it did not work when we bought the plane...), a new one of these will be installed when we get to it. Radio Stack What stack? We don't have one. A Nice KX-170B with 208 indicator was gratiously donated to us (yea, that means free). This will be installed when the new panel is created. I also want to go ahead and get a nice King audio panel with aux input and intercomm to put at the top of the stack. We will also be installing either another KX-170B or a newer KX-155 with a glideslope indicator as soon as money permits. It should be noted that the KX-170B is NOT a glideslope Nav/Comm and either needs to run a KI-214 for a glideslope indicator, or a KI-209 coupled with a KN-79 glideslope decoder to function properly. The KX-155 however will operate the KI-209 indicator just fine. We already have a transponder that works, so I don't reall find the need to change it, unless we wanted to do it purely on a cosmetic basis. New Instrument Panel With all these new instruments, we're gonna need a new panel. I haven't yet worked out the legal side of things as far as us cutting and installing our own panel, but for sure, I will know soon. The new panel will have the primary six in the standard "T" configuration, as well as a dedicated radio stack. It should look very nice when it's all complete. |
