Body Tag Decoding
Also known as fender tags, these codes can seem rather plentiful on some
models. Hopefully the table below will help you decode your Mopar vehicle.
Select the first character of an option code from the list below...
How To Read the Fender Tag!
This is something that I didn't know when I started decoding, so I was looking at the options like "what the hell?".
Anyways, here is a quick lesson on how to do it:
Say this is the example fender tag...:-)

|
Here are the codes...
R35 V9W Y05 EN1
G33 J54 M21 N41 N42 N85
V1W A01 A62 B51 C16 C55
FK5 N6K4 000 706 121149
E63 D32 JS23 N0B 410964
|
So... Always start with the bottom line, read left to right, then up! Strange, I know, but 'tis the way it works....
Line 1: E63 D32 JS23 N0B 410964
The first set is engine code (lookup). E63 means 383 cu in/4bbl/335 hp.
The second set is tranny code (lookup). D32 means 727 3spd auto.
The rest of the line is of course the VIN number (decode below) and should match up with what's said here.
Line 2: FK5 N6K4 000 706 121149
The first set is exterior body color (lookup in paint codes). FK5 is Dark Burnt Orange Irid (metallic).
The second set is interior trim/color. N6K4 is Burnt Orange inside.. ICK!!!
The third set, 000, is usually the upper door molding color (from what I can tell). Not really sure. Someone help me out here?
The fourth set, 706, is the birthdate of that year for the car. 706 is month 7, sixth day! 7/06/1970.
The last set, 121149, is the build number, or order number of the car. This helps line workers identify the car.
Line 3: V1W A01 A62 B51 C16 C55
The third line up starts listing options.
V1W happens to be White vinyl top. V1# is the code for vinyl top. The 3rd character denotes color (lookup in color list)
A01 is the lighting package.
A62 is Rallaye Insts.
You get the idea....
Line 4: G33 J54 M21 N41 N42 N85
More options to look-up on this line too!
Line 5: R35 V9W Y05 EN1
Again, more options to look-up.
Don't let the EN1 fool you. It means it's the end of the fender tag. It may also read EN2 (the 1 or 2 was the asy. line it went down) or
END. If you have a heavily optioned car, it may say something else (the code escapes me though) to indicate that it was continued on
another tag, usually right next to that one.
